Saarlased plaanivad Saarte mängudel osaleda 11 spordialal
Järgmise aasta 28. juunist 4. juulini Guernseyl toimuvatel Saarte mängudel osalemiseks on registreerinud kõik 23 saart ja võistlema oodatakse üle 2000 sportlase.Saaremaa on teinud eelülesandmise 11 spordialal ja saarlased peaks võistlema kergejõustikus, meeste korvpallis, jalgrattaspordis, jalgpallis, golfis, purjetamises, ujumises, lauatennises, tennises, meeste ja naiste võrkpallis.
Esialgu ei ole osalemissoovi ilmutanud laskjad ja vibulaskjad. Esimest korda planeerivad osalemist tennisistid, taas kuuluvad Saarte mängud ujujate plaanidesse.
Saarte mängudele on kõige enam registreerinud saari kergejõustikus, kuhu on registreerinud 20 saart. Järgnevad laskmine 18, ujumine ja golf 17 saarega. Kõige vähem registreerujaid on purjelaua sõidus 6 ja võimlemises 7 saart.
Kergejõustik on üks aladest, kus jagatakse palju medaleid. Traditsiooniliselt on siin saanud oma suurima saagi ka saarlased. Kindlasti peaks konkurentsi suurendama esimest korda Saarte mängudel osaleva Bermuda kergejõustiklased. Seni on registreerinud järgmised saared: Ahvenamaa, Alderney, Bermuda, Cayman, Falkland, Fääri saared, Gibraltar, Gotland, Gröönimaa, Guernsey, Isle of Man, Isle of Wight, Jersey, Orkney, Rhodos, Saaremaa, Sark, Shetland, St. Helena, Ynys Mon.
Meeste korvpall: Bermuda, Cayman, Gibraltar, Gotland, Guernsey, Isle of Man, Isle of Wight, Jersey, Rhodos, Saaremaa, Ynys Mon.
Jalgrattasport on alati olnud saarlastele üks edukamaid alasid. Ka Guernseyl peaks saarlased olema medalinõudlejate hulgas. Võistlusteks on registreerinud: Bermuda, Cayman, Fääri saared, Froya, Gotland, Guernsey, Isle of Man, Isle of Wight, Jersey, Prince Edwardi saar, Rhodos, Saaremaa, Shetland, Ynys Mon.
Jalgpall on üks kõrgematasemelisemaid alasid Saarte mängude programmis. Kui 1999. aastal jäid saarlased viimaseks, siis 2001. aastal saavutati juba 10. koht. Kõrged sihid on ka Guernseyl. Osalemisest on teatanud Alderney, Bermuda, Falkland, Gibraltar, Gröönimaa, Guernsey, Hitra, Isle of Man, Isle of Wight, Jersey, Prince Edwardi saar, Rhodos, Saaremaa, Sark, Shetland, Ynys Mon.
Golf on samuti üks kõrgematasemelisemaid alasid Saarte mängude programmis. Saarlased on piirdunud küll autsaideri rolliga, kuid aasta aastalt on oma taset parandatud. Osalevad Ahvenamaa, Alderney, Cayman, Falkland, Gibraltar, Gotland, Guernsey, Hitra, Isle of Man, Isle of Wight, Jersey, Orkney, Rhodos, Saaremaa, Shetland, St. Helena, Ynys Mon.
Purjetamises tõi Jaak Jõgi Mani saarelt kuldmedali. Medalid on jõukohased ka Guernseyl. Osalevad Ahvenamaa, Bermuda, Guernsey, Isle of Man, Isle of Wight, Jersey, Rhodos, Saaremaa, Shetland.
Ujumise tase on Saarte mängudel kõrge. Saarlased seni osalenud vaid Gotlandil. Registreerunud on Ahvenamaa, Bermuda, Cayman, Falkland, Fääri saared, Froya, Gibraltar, Gotland, Guernsey, Isle of Man, Isle of Wight, Jersey, Orkney, Prince Edwardi saar, Rhodos, Saaremaa, Shetland.
Lauatennis on saarlased koputanud medalisaajate uksele, kuid päris pjedestaalile pole veel jõudnud. Registreerunud on Ahvenamaa, Bermuda, Fääri saared, Gotland, Gröönimaa, Guernsey, Isle of Man, Isle of Wight, Jersey, Orkney, Saaremaa, Shetland.
Tennises ei ole saarlased veel osalenud, kuid potentsiaal kõrgetele kohtadele jõudmisel Rauno Gulli näol on olemas. Registreerunud on Ahvenamaa, Alderney, Bermuda, Cayman, Gibraltar, Gotland, Guernsey, Isle of Man, Isle of Wight, Jersey, Prince Edwardi saar, Rhodos, Saaremaa, Ynys Mon.
Meeste võrkpall on olnud saarlaste üks paraadalasid, kuid viimastel mängudel on kullaheitluses tulnud tunnistada rootslate paremust. Guernseyl peaks konkurentsi tihendama Bermuda meeskonna lisandumine. Registreerunud on Ahvenamaa, Bermuda, Cayman, Fääri saared, Gibraltar, Gotland, Gröönimaa, Guernsey, Isle of Man, Jersey, Orkney, Rhodos, Saaremaa, Shetland.
Naiste võrkpall on Saaremaale pea alati kuldmedali toonud, kuigi Gotlandil ja Manil on tulnud leppida kahvatumat värvi medalitega. Registreerunud on Ahvenamaa, Bermuda, Cayman, Fääri saared, Gibraltar, Gotland, Gröönimaa, Guernsey, Hitra, Jersey, Saaremaa.
